News from St. Mary's By-The-Sea - November 2021

Dear Fenwick Neighbors,

Whether you know it as the chapel where you attend Sunday services, or as a prominent impediment on the first hole, St. Mary’s By-the-Sea has been part of the Fenwick community for more than a century. Please see this great article from the Old Saybrook Historical Society about the church’s history.

We have new plans for next year. If you have never visited the chapel, we hope you’ll consider doing so – regardless of your religious affiliation or practices. All are welcome. The Memorial Garden is available to all Fenwick residents as a final resting place.

If you are a regular Sunday attendee, your responses to this summer’s survey have led to some changes:

We heard nearly unanimous support for moving Sunday services an hour earlier to 10am so we will institute this starting in July, 2022.

We would like to see this beautiful building used by the community so if you have ideas for concerts, lectures, children’s story hours - let us know.

We hope to get more people involved in the church so please contact us if you are interested, even if your time is very limited.

We are in search of an organist, or organists, to replace Robert Boody who has retired. Suggestions are welcome. We are also open to ideas for officiants who can lead Sunday services.

Thanks to the stewardship of Sallie Boody over the past 30+ years we are on a firm footing and poised for a great future.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Ethel Davis & Duby McDowell
