Borough News from the Desk of the Warden

May 25, 2022

Dear Residents,

Happy spring to you and your family. I look forward to seeing you over the next few weeks. Please see below for general news and updates which I would like to share with you:

  • Annual Residents’ Meeting:  As is the custom, we will hold our annual residents’ meeting on Saturday morning May 28th at 9am at St. Mary’s. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. We will discuss the budget (both this year’s and next), capital projects and other topical issues. Unfortunately, as I will be attending my daughter Georgia’s long delayed (Covid) graduation in D.C., I will not be there. Burgess Frank Keeney has graciously agreed to lead the meeting.
  • Play class: The Fenwick Junior Sports Program Registration has been emailed to everyone on the distribution list. There is a June 10th deadline for registration. If you are not currently on the email distribution list and would like to be, please reach out by email (fenwickjrprogram@gmail.com) with that request. The Fenwick Junior Sports Program is always in need of volunteers. Please contact them via email if you are interested in helping. You don’t need to be a parent of a child in the program to volunteer. All are welcome.
  • Borough Entrance: The final landscaping and planting of the reconfigured Borough entrance will be completed by Memorial Day weekend. This is the “bow” on this successful project that began last year. Please understand that the plantings will need time to grow into their mature size over the next few years.
  • Staffing: Pete Dombrowski will return as the Park Ranger, but due to other obligations, will mostly be here on weekends. We are looking for someone to work during the week. Suggestions are welcome. Additionally, similar to last year, we have hired several Beach Monitors to help control the flow of unauthorized people, bikes, carts and cars. Please introduce yourself and your guests to them.
  • Additional Staffing News: Kris Schiavi has retired and has been replaced by Jenny Belval, joining Marcy Casey in the Borough Office. We also have three new full time employees, as of this time last year, under Daryl’s supervision; Tyler Maxwell, Alex Kaar and Alex “Skip” Douglas. Please give them all a warm welcome and introduce yourself as you see them around the Borough.
  • Expanded Golf Course Residents Only Time: The golf course is in spectacular condition. Per usual, Daryl and his team have done a fantastic job getting the golf course back in shape this spring. Please get out there, take some swings and enjoy the beauty at every turn.  As an added incentive, on a trial basis, we have expanded the “Residents Only” playing time to now include Friday afternoons, commencing June 24th and running through Labor Day. So, the course will be closed to the public every Friday, Saturday & Sunday beginning at 4pm, tee times not required.
  • Lawn Maintenance Restrictions: As a reminder, last year the Board of Burgesses amended the “Hammer Law”, which now restricts times/days of lawn service. Please take careful note of these changes and if necessary, take the appropriate action to comply:
  • No yard/lawn service shall occur in the Borough on Friday, Saturday & Sundays during the Summer Season (Memorial Day – Columbus Day). This restriction does NOT prohibit yard/lawn work by owners maintaining their own property.
  • No yard/lawn service shall occur on any day before 8am or 5pm. Inclusive of all.
  • No commercial yard/lawn service vehicles are permitted to park on Borough roads. Please make sure your contractor understands that he/she must park in your driveway or ion another agreed upon location.
  • Golf Carts: Golf carts are to be operated ONLY by those who hold a valid driver’s license. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. Please do not allow any of your non-licensed children to drive a cart, including at night. Additionally, all those driving carts on Borough roads must adhere to the stop signs, etc.
  • Garbage Collection Hold Harmless: For those homeowners who would like the Borough to continue to enter their home or garage for weekly trash removal, you have been sent a hold harmless agreement that must be signed and returned to the Borough Office no later than June 15th. If you choose not to execute the document, your trash will not be picked up unless the receptacles are placed outside. If you have any questions, please contact Jeff in the office (gm@fenwicknews.com).

Please feel free to contact me (warden@fenwicknews.com)  with any questions or concerns. Thank you and I wish everyone a happy Memorial Day weekend.

Respectfully,

Newton C. Brainard III
Warden
