Borough News from the Desk of the Warden - April, 2021

From the Desk of the Warden
Borough of Fenwick

April 22, 2021

Dear Residents,

I would like to notify you of a recent change made to the Borough ordinance known as the “Hammer Law”.

The Board of Warden and Burgesses recently amended the “Hammer Law” in the following ways:

  • Restricted lawn service dates and times, particularly during the Summer Season (Memorial Day – Columbus Day)
  • Tightened/Simplified existing construction activity language and prohibited work before 7am and after 7pm.

The change which  has the possibility to impact the vast majority of residents, beginning this spring, is the new lawn service restriction. The highlighted changes are as follows:

  • No yard/lawn service may occur in the Borough on Friday, Saturday & Sundays during the Summer Season (Memorial Day – Columbus Day). This restriction does NOT prohibit yard/lawn work by owners maintaining their own property.
  • No yard/lawn service shall occur on any day before 8am or 5pm. Inclusive of all.
  • No yard/lawn service vehicles are allowed to park on Borough roads.  Please make sure your contractor understands that he/she needs to park in your driveway or in another agreed upon location.
  • Vehicles with more than two axles are prohibited between July 1 and Labor Day except where necessary to make a delivery of goods or materials to a home within the Borough after a permit has been issued by the Warden, Building Official or Zoning Enforcement Officer.  Note that there is no fee for this permit and it can be obtained by email.

Please see the matrix that outlines all of the current restrictions to construction activities and yard service. It is the responsibility of each homeowner to make sure his/her lawn service company and contractors adhere to this amended Borough ordinance. The changes are meant to enhance the quality of life for all residents while they are residing in the Borough.

As usual, if you have any questions regarding what is is/is  not allowed,  please email our ZEO Marilyn Ozols (zeo@fenwicknews.com). It is best practice to inquire ahead of any planned work, no matter how seemingly insignificant.

Thank you in advance for your adherence to this important, amended ordinance.

Best,

-Newt
