Warden's Update - June, 2017

Warden's Update --- June, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Our new Park Monitor has been hired and has already been working at the position. It was my pleasure to introduce Chuck Mercer at the Annual Residents’ Meeting. As his title implies, Chuck's primary responsibility is to monitor activity in the Borough. He is not an enforcement  officer. However, his background as a retired Old Saybrook Police Officer makes him well qualified to address any situation that might arise. His presence should be a strong deterrent to negative behavior. Please join me in welcoming Chuck to Fenwick.

On June 20, 2017 I received a letter from Larry DeBiasiis, our General Manager informing me that he intends to retire from the Borough on August 31, 2017. Larry has served as our first and only General Manager for thirteen years. The Borough has flourished under Larry's leadership. He is a loyal and dedicated GM. His management skills coupled with his ability to collaborate with the Warden and Burgesses have produced outstanding results. Larry knows how to get things done. We appreciate Larry's good work.  He will leave big shoes to fill.

As I finish my term as Warden I repeat that it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Borough and all of you. I  have enjoyed working with six Burgesses who have been very professional and thoughtful in addressing the many issues that face the Borough. We didn't  solve all the problems but we accomplished a lot. Much remains to be done. I wish the new Board of Warden and Burgesses great success. I urge them to take their work seriously. It is important work.

I would like to thank my fellow officers, all of whom are continuing, for their good work, - Julie LeBlanc, our Clerk, Bob Gay, the Borough's Treasurer and Matt Myers, the Tax Collector. The Boards and Commissions work diligently year round to fulfill their responsibilities. I am grateful to all the members for their good citizenship. Daryl Aresco is the Superintendent supreme. He has become an accomplished professional in every respect. His good work speaks for itself. Marilyn Ozols wears many hats. Her extensive knowledge about municipal government makes her a go-to teammate. Our entire Staff goes beyond the call of duty. We are fortunate to have such a fantastic team.

I do not have to remind you that Fenwick is a special place. I have done my best to keep it that way! Thank you for the privilege.

Best regards,

Fran
