Warden's Update - April 2017

Warden's Update---April 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Although the calendar says that it is still mid-April, the early signs of summer are starting to emerge. According to Andy Griswold of the Audubon Society the ospreys have occupied every available stand. Their nests are growing larger by the day. The turkey flock may be larger than ever. I counted eighteen healthy looking birds in my yard last week. And there are rabbits galore. In a flash the grass on the fairways brightened from winter tan to peak season green. Even Daryl was impressed. Summer is just around the corner.

Our long-serving Business Manager, Kay Tucker, has decided to retire after twenty-five years of service to the Borough and its residents. There will be a celebration in Kay's honor starting at 3:00 PM on Friday April 28 at the Borough office. All Borough residents are invited. This will be the perfect opportunity to say "Thank you" to Kay for all she has done for so long to make Fenwick the great place that it is. Please join us.

You will be hearing more about the impact of four storms this spring starting with Storm Stella on March 14. Erosion has been accelerating exacerbating an already threatening situation. Bill Webster and the Living Seashore Committee that he chairs are working on a solution. The Lynde Point Land Trust owns some of the "restored" dunes along the southerly shore of the marsh that were nearly breached this spring. Jessica Gay, President of LPLT, and the Board of Directors are concerned that a new entry point for Long Island Sound would alter the marsh as we know it.

May 1 is Election Day in the Borough. Clerk Julie LeBlanc has worked hard to organize the election, the first under the new Elector requirements. All the information that you need is on the Fenwick web site. As a result of the changes we made, we now have more than twice as many electors qualified to vote as there were in the last Borough election two years ago. Be sure to vote!

The Borough of Fenwick Annual Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 27 at 9:00 AM at St. Mary's. Residents will have the opportunity to discuss issues facing the Borough including the proposed budget for the fiscal year that begins on July 1, 2017 and ends June 30, 2018 with the Treasurer and the Board of Warden and Burgesses.

The Board of Warden and Burgesses met on Friday, March 31. The next meeting will be at 5:00 PM on April 28 at 4 Nibang Avenue. Minutes and agendas for all meetings appear on the Fenwick web site.

Best regards, Fran
